Intro to Figure Drawing Class  by Charles Hu

     
 
Heavy emphasis on the gesture, rhythm, and construction of the human form.  Poses range from 3 to 15 minutes.  The class also focuses on
using the line weight to stress tension, stretch and pinch.  Breaking down the body parts in 3D structure, showing students how to draw the parts in different views.  The articulation of the body parts, key landmarks and connection will also be explained.  Great for inventing figure out of your head.  This class is not about copying, but about analyzing the figure, drawings that tell stories.



Long Pose Figure and Costume Drawing Class  by Charles Hu

In this class, the students will focus on proportion, form, value grouping, composition, and to achieve on rendering with different materials.  The poses range from 3 hours to 6 hours.  We will be working on figure model for the first 5 weeks and costume for the next 5 weeks.  This is a class that will help figure painting.


 Head Drawing Class  by Charles Hu

      
 
This class will focus on head structure, proportion, and the likeness. We will be working from live model and students will learn how to draw heads from different angles. We will explore on drawing from different age groups and genders. The class will begin working on the fundamentals; and we will work with pastel, charcoal and white chalk for highlights.
 
 
Beginning Figure Painting Class  by Edgar Silva

       
 
This class will consist of a demonstration with a lecture covering the important elements in painting such as value, color temperature, edges, color theory as well as composition and design. This class takes students through a monochromatic, limited, and finally a full palette, allowing students to understand color on a gradient.
 
 
Advanced Figure Painting Class   by Edgar Silva
 
       

Advanced figure painting from live model, that focuses on value, color relationships, and how the function of light dictates the relationships we see. Most importantly, teaches you how to mentally organize and prioritize your problem solving and the working process. Work on personal projects or class assignments with a focus on learning how to develop finished work, using application concepts - dark to light - transparent to opaque - thin to thick - glazing vs. dry brushing - wet into wet vs. dry layering (stages). Students will have 8 hours to spend on each painting from life. The final two poses will be 12 hours each.



Head Painting Class   by Sean Cheetham


     

Learning to paint from life is the focus of this class.  Drawing, likeness, composition, color mixing, value, and composition will be discussed.

Sean is recognized as one of the most acclaimed young figurative painters today.  He was recently featured in American Artist's Workshop magazine among others.  He had his first one man exhibition with The Mendenhall Sobieski Gallery in 2006.
 
 
 
 


 

Portfolio Preparation Class

 
This course will enable students to prepare a portfolio of artwork as part of their application to Professional Art School.
  • Provide the student with fundamental knowledge and understanding of art and design processes
  • Develop skills of visual communication and self expression
  • Discover your potential for creativity, self-expression and visual awareness

 

The work completed in this course will be properly presented and arranged to demonstrate its relevance to the major to which the students are applying.

 

 

The course will include:

 

    

     Figure Drawing

  • Introduce basic figure lay-in, gesture, proportion, anatomy, edges, light and shadow
  • Able to build a solid structure of figure from lay-in to finished drawing
  • Figure drawing workshop with live model every sunday from 10am to 1pm   

 

     Painting

  • Be able to use painting as a means of communicating and generating ideas
  • To understand the basic principles of color
  • Experiment with a range of media and techniques (oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, etc)
  • Be able to employ a variety of traditional and experimental techniques and processes

 

     Illustration

  • Stresses on creativity and self-expression
  • Introduce the basic principles of visual storytelling and concept development
  • Sharpen visual communication skills
  • Work from sketching of thumbnails to rendering of the final finished illustration
