Perspective Observational Drawing by Gary Meyer
The Perspective and Observational Drawing Class will include a study of the system that allows artists to draw the world of space and form on a flat surface. The students explore one point perspective and two-point perspective in both sketches and using systems of measurement points.
The three-point perspective is introduced with basic drawings and drawings of greater complexity including one demonstrating three-point perspective from a specific eye level. The final large project is a drawing of some architectural structures in three-point perspective.
There is an extensive lecture on shadows from a natural light source. The difference in plotting shadows from artificial light and natural light is shown in exercises. A lecture and exercise on reflections will conclude the notebook part of the course.

In this class, we will be focusing on gesture, rhythm, action, and the harmony within the pose to give drawing a more “rhythmical” instead of a stiff look. The class also will stress on using line weight to show tension, weight, and balance using model as reference to exaggerate the action within your drawing to have a more expressive and energetic look. Poses in this class range from 3 minutes to 10 minutes. Previous anatomy or life figure drawing experience is recommended for this class.

Advanced Figure Drawing by Sergio Sanchez
This class will focus on Figure drawing from a live model. The goal is to understand the fundamentals of shape, value, and edge, their relationships, and how light dictates the relationships we see. We will set up a variety of lighting challenges throughout the course to emphasize light logic.
We will tackle important fundamental tools for the student, such as learning how to mentally organize and prioritize your working process or method, and problem solving skills throughout your process. This course is necessary to accurately record your observations of the relationships between the fundamental concepts. Students will be challenged to really understand what it is they are drawing and how light falls across the form, which will ultimately improve your paintings as well.
We will discuss and use a variety of materials, from basic newsprint and charcoal, to higher quality archival materials. There will be extensive discussion on different combination's of materials and how they play off of one another, either making the process very easy, efficient, and forgiving, or fight you the entire time and not be efficient or forgiving at all if the improper choice is made.
There will be an overview of all the elements that go into a student’s education, as well as a fully functioning artists life. This discussion is meant to give the student some sort of awareness as to where they are in their education. Balance and relationships are everything in life and art, and you need perspective to realize that, you gain perspective by comparing your position to the environment around you. This class will help you gain that context.
Students should have some Figure and Head Drawing experience and be prepared for a variety of challenges designed to train their eye to truly observe and understand the human form. Gesture Drawing and Anatomy are great preparatoy courses for this course.
